WORK IN PROGRESS

A fairy-tale infused historical novel for adults set in the late 18 th century, moving between Imperial China and France during the ‘Terror’ of the French Revolution, and inspired by the true story of a quest for a blood-red rose.

The novel will draw upon ‘The Blue Rose,’ a fairy tale set in China about a quest for an impossible rose.

THE STORY DOCTOR – An Editing Masterclass

Writing a novel is the hard part …. Isn’t it?

The truth is the hard work nearly always comes in the final editing stage. Think of your first draft as an unpolished gem that needs to be cut and polished before it can gain its true sparkle. A writer needs to bring a cold and critical eye to their own work in the editing stage and this can be very hard to do (particularly if you don’t really know how to edit ….)
In this 6-hour masterclass workshop, Kate Forsyth will teach you all she has learnt about the craft of editing in an intense and practical workshop that will include a close look at the opening chapters of your finished manuscript, plus your synopsis and query letter.
Students must bring blue, black and red pens and a packet of eight different coloured highlighters as well as their synopsis, query letter, brief chapter summaries, and the first 10,000 words of your novel manuscript.
