About Kate

Kate Forsyth is the internationally bestselling author of numerous books for children and adults. Her latest book is Sea-Magic, the third in 'Ben and Tim's Magical Misadventures', a series for lower primary school children.

Her novel for older readers, The Gypsy Crown, has been sold all round the world. In Australia, where it was published as a six-book series, it won five Aurealis Awards for Excellence in Childrens' Fiction, and Book 5: The Lightning Bolt was named a CBC Notable Book for 2007.

The Gypsy Crown follows the perilous adventures of two Romany children and their menagerie of cheeky animals, through the dark and dangerous days at the end of Oliver Cromwell's reign in England. Emilia and Luka Finch, thirteen year old cousins, are pursued by a cruel thief-taker, and encounter highwaymen, witches, smugglers, and Royalist spies, in a quest to find the six lost gypsy charms that may help them save their family. Kate is also the author of the popular 'Witches of Eileanan' series which has been short-listed for numerous Aurealis awards for Excellence in Fantasy, and was named one of the Best First Novels of 1998 by Locus Magazine in the US. Her second series set in Eileanan, called 'Rhiannon's Ride' stayed in the bestsellers list for months, and Book 1: The Tower Of Ravens was given an almost unprecedented five blue ribbons by the 'Romance Junkies' website.

She has also written The Starthorn Tree, a fantasy for young adults, which was short-listed for numerous awards, a picture book called I AM; a collection of poetry called Radiance; and a contemporary literary novel Full Fathom Five, published under her maiden name, Kate Humphrey.
